1.1 The Door Problem
In my opinion, the roles of Creative Director, Concept Artist, Art Director, Writer, Character Artist, QA Tester, Localization, and PR are the most appealing. I like a lot of these roles because many of them fall more on the visual artistic side, which is both what I enjoy and what I feel I am good at. I am also interested in and currently studying writing and a couple languages. Also I think QA Tester might just be a cool job (although often tedious).
On the other hand, I think roles like Audio Engineer, Gameplay Programmer, AI Programmer, Network Programmer, Core Engine Programmer, and Tools Programmer. I am absolutely not a tech savvy person, and programming/coding is one of my biggest weaknesses. It is also something that I personally do not enjoy at all. I think jobs like these would frustrate and bore me immensely.
Overall, I think the reading was very enjoyable and helped me to start to conceptualize many of the roles in the game industry that I didn’t have a good grasp of beforehand. I think seeing this helps me get a more clear idea of what direction I might want to go in if I continue with games.
